Who I am?

I'm the heart and brains behind apfelgrün zum Anziehen. A passionate sewer and fashion expert since more than twenty years I opened in 2012 a ladies’ fashion boutique in Frankfurt/Germany. There I sold high quality collections of European fashion designers, young and small brands. In my spare time I developed my own fashion label “apfelgruen by Sabine Schmitt”, offering timeless dresses and skirts. After my relocation to South Africa I set up workshop and soon fell in love with shweshwe, the traditional South African cotton fabric. Experimenting with the colours of shweshwe and the European fashion design I brought from Germany, I decided to develop an own families’ fashion collection to market in Africa and in Europe. I developed the cuts and produced samples of each piece myself and soon handpicked a few small manufacturing workshops who are able to produce the collections according to the high apfelgruen quality standards. I collaborate closely with these manufacturers to ensure continuity in the finishing of each individual piece.
