You and calligraphy, can it be? My experience with calligraphy when I first encountered it was not so positive. Calligraphy is like Tai-Chi, it required me to slow down, really slow down, and get into the still world inside me. As a young person in my 20s, I couldn't bear that. I wanted to be fast and strong and powerful, like a big wave in the sea, rising up and breaking things on its way. But all the struggle was actually teaching me a life lesson: if I rush, something might go wrong, something might be missed, and the result was that I couldn't be satisfied with my performance. Only when my energy is really calm can I see myself, find myself, and then gradually guide myself to step into the garden within. There, in my garden, I feel things I'd miss if I tried to rush: the warm feeling in my palm as my body naturally follows Tai-chi's movements, an idea to express what I want to say non-verbally through my drawing. This is how this calligraphic postcard was created. It's my wish for someone I love. I wish his mind to be free, I wish his steps through the ups and downs of this life to be light and happy, just like the way I moved my brush to write his nickname - "minh". And you, if you're in search of something different, a break from this hectic and busy world, perhaps you could have a go at calligraphy?
