Who I am?
I’m Lavia Lin, a Berlin-based abstract artist and live painting performer from Shanghai, China. My work focuses on the relationship between art and music. I make paintings inspired by music, constantly experimenting and studying the connection between visual arts and music. Hoping to create musical paintings, in which the imageries and mood provoked by music can be conveyed and translated using colours, lines and textures. A more direct approach to music is to perform live painting with musicians, and capture the music as it comes alive on stage, documenting the beginning and end of a concert, where the painting becomes the visual memory of music. Aside from music, as an initiative painter, I draw inspirations also from everyday life, encounters, memories and conversations.
Experiences
As a freelance artist I have been exhibted in China, Germany, UK, and as a live performer I have worked with international musicians from different genres, ranging from jazz, singer-songwriter, experimental folk music to classical, constantly exploring the visual language of music. Recently I have started the collaboration with Elsa Rousson, the dancer from France, to explore the connection between colours and movements.
